Pretty much every photojournalist has covered a demonstration or two at some point in their lives. I quickly wearied of them, merely because everybody seemed to be shooting the same thing and they'd be nothing really original to say about them unless there was something that people were really angry about, like they were with The Poll Tax riots in 1990. In 1997 Labour had won an historic election, and the mood of the country seemed more positive. There wasn't really all that much to protest about, so people turned out on May Day as part of a tradition, in order to have a bit of fun, as well to try to make a point about whatever issue was important to them. I in turn, decided to use an old Mamiya C330 medium format camera and shot some portraits. Sadly, people have got a lot more things to be angry about now.
